Thursday night, Count Dante teamed up with Patrick "Security" Burger and BDFS drummer Jim "The Truth" Henderson to form the heavy "Classic Trek" instrumental trio Savage Curtain and closed the rousing, whisky-soaked tribute to James Doohan aka Montgomery Scott at the Edinburgh Castle Scottish pub
in San Francisco.

The tribute ranged from raucous to somber and featured tasteful readings on the subject of Scotty, a video tribute to Doohan/Mr. Scott that hit all of the marks, the Corbomite

inspired sounds of Savage Curtain, and an award winning bagpiper mournfully playing "Amazing Grace."

Glaswegian Pub manager and literary impresario Alan Black (left) was forced to admit that the recently deceased Doohan was Canadian but went on to say, "Scotty inspired all of us to be Scottish." Black also continued to say that if the ship's engineer was a teetotaler with an English accent named Nigel that the Enterprise would have blown up in the first few episodes of the show. These spirited remarks conjured heavy applause and single-malt sales soared at the pub soon after their delivery.

Count Dante (known in Edinburgh Castle circles as Bob Calhoun for some reason) also delivered a speech on the subject of Scotty. "Montgomery Scott isn't (or won't be) the product of faith-based initiatives or intelligent design," Dante said in his inspirational yet topical closing to his spoken word piece. "Scotty comes from a place where mankind trusts in science, technology and reason to bring us closer to our humanity - not farther from it."

To close the festivities, Savage Curtain cranked almost avant-garde art noise versions of the music to the classic episodes "The Corbomite Maneuver," "The Doomsday Machine," "Shoreleave," and "Amok Time." Henderson was tastefully and respectfully attired in his kilt made from the actual Henderson clan tartan while Burger wore the red shirt of a Federation security officer, but he was in no way expendable as he wielded his ebow and heavy amounts of tube amp distortion to good affect. Dante eschewed his usual fashion kimono and instead wore a dark blue suit and a crazy "Star Trek" tie from the 1980s graciously supplied by Costumeparty! (located at 1058 Hyde Street in San Francisco) .

Savage Curtain closed with a rock and roll version of "Scotland the Brave" in honor of both Montgomery Scott and James Doohan. Alan Black joined in for this number on the Irish whistle. During a break in the piece, Dante once again addressed the crowd.

"Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most Scottish," Dante said. Dante then took a massive shot of Scotch from an authentic Saurian brandy bottle until the amber liquid ran down his shirt. He then continued, "There has been a lot of talk about this or that town in Scotland claiming to be the future birthplace of Scotty! I say that the future memory of Montgomery Scott should be used to heal, not to hack. It should be used to unify all Scotsmen and I say that the plaque honoring Scotty should be placed right on the steps of the Scottish Parliament!"
